Rachel Meiselman wins Jill Stacey Harris prize in Jewish Studies
May 15, 2026
The Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies is pleased to award this year’s Jill Stacey Harris Prize in Jewish Studies to Rachel Meiselman. Meiselman’s project “Seeing and Saving: A Haggadah of Moral Rebellion,” was created for Professor Shira Schwartz’s course “Jewish Texts as Media."
The project demonstrates thoughtful integration of Jewish textual interpretation, feminist theology, and creative ritual practice. The committee was particularly impressed by the project’s original and carefully developed reinterpretation of the Haggadah tradition, as well as by its striking visual design and its ability to connect historical, ethical, and contemporary questions in a reflective and intellectually engaging way. It is a profoundly moving project that spans spiritual practice, political solidarity, and personal responsibility.
The Jill Stacey Harris Prize in Jewish Studies has been awarded annually since 1991 for the best undergraduate essay or project in the field of Jewish Studies. Student papers and projects are nominated by the faculty in Jewish Studies and an independent committee evaluates and judges the nominated submissions.
