Ben Gorvine is a Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Professor of Instruction and Associate Chair in the Department of Psychology. His research interests center on two broad areas: (1) pedagogical research on the best practices for instruction in psychology in general, and statistics (as taught in psychology) more specifically; and (2) fathers and children's socio-emotional development. Recently, he has become increasingly interested in researching pedagogical approaches to help students distinguish between what it means to be uncomfortable in a challenging classroom discussion and being unsafe. He is a co-author of Research Methods: From theory to practice (Oxford, 2018). He is a recipient of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Teaching Award (2014) and the Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Professor of Instruction (2023). He has served on the advisory board of the Holocaust Educational Foundation of Northwestern since 2018. Ben received a Hewlett Curricular Fellowship to support the course development of a class on the Psychology of the Holocaust, which he has taught since 2017.
